In 1980s, Mainland China’s attitude toward Taiwan was still unclear, and Taiwan did not open the family visit and tourism in Mainland Chain. Sheen, Ching-Jing, Chairman of Core Pacific Group, supported the filming of Taiwanese television series “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” based on the passion and idea of “introducing the latest cultures and customs in Mainland China to the Taiwanese young audience” and tapped into the field of Chinese cultural exchanges.

Such initiative colliding cross-strait politics was quite impressive at that time. Someone asked Sheen, “Why commit political taboo?” Sheen replied that he hoped Taiwanese young people could watch this series of shows to get rid of stereotyped impression on political education during the Cold War period and truly see the current status of Mainland China and feel the beauty of Chinese cultures directly.

Since spring of 1989, “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” was broadcast weekly in Taiwan Television Enterprise, Ltd., the first television broadcast station in Taiwan. The show created very high ratings and resulted in popular discussions among every community. The host Feng Ling enjoyed high popularity both in Mainland China and Taiwan due to this series of shows and even married He Shunshun from Shandong. Feng Ling said that he broadened his vision when hosting “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” and learned to pay respect to Chinese cultures. During the six years of broadcast, “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” has been awarded “Best Cultural and Educational Show” by Government Information Office, Executive Yuan for several times. This recognition, after decades of subsequent development, shows that the decision made by Chairman Sheen made at that time was prospective.

Later “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” was broadcast in Chinese societies around the world and received huge responses. Overseas Chinese schools in Korea even included this show in their teaching materials; many libraries in Hong Kong also archive all videotapes of this program; news about selling of videotapes or disks of this program were often seen in newspapers in Taiwan. “Ba Qian Li Lu Yun He Yue” sponsored by Chairman Sheen is said to create a first instance and glorious page in the history of cross-strait cultural exchanges.
